St. John’s Cathedral Bible Center

The Bible Center is a reading room located next to the Cathedral Gift Shop. The Saint John’s Bible is featured on a hand crafted book stand in a comfortable environment with table and chairs. The donors stress that The Saint John's Bible is meant to be viewed and used for worship, reflection, and study. If you are interested in attending or hosting a class or retreat focusing on the Bible, contact the Cathedral office.

The Bible Room is open on Sundays from 8:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M., and on Tuesdays from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. You can also make special arrangements with the Cathedral office to have a docent available for a special tour.

About the Saint John's Bible

In 1998, Saint John’s Abbey and University, Collegeville, MN commissioned renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson to produce a hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible. This work of art unites ancient Benedictine tradition with the technology and vision of today, illuminating the Word of God for our new millennium.

In 2014, a generous donor lovingly gave a Heritage Edition of the Saint John’s Bible to the Cathedral of St. John for the people of the Diocese of the Rio Grande and the community. It will be used in the liturgy and studied by the community.

Best of all, the Saint John’s Bible is available for your personal discovery and enjoyment. The Saint John’s Bible Room welcomes all who are drawn to encounter this beautiful work.

The Cathedral Book Store and Gift Shop, offers books and gifts related to the Saint John’s Bible, as well as books, jewelry, art, and many items both by Cathedral members and others.

You are invited to celebrate the Saint John’s Bible by making a donation for maintenance, by being a Bible docent, or shop assistant; and by simply taking time to look at and read the Bible itself.
