Choirs

The Cathedral has two principal choirs who sing at the Sunday liturgies. The Cathedral Choristers sing at the 9:00 AM service and the Cathedral Choir sings at the 11:00 AM service. The Cathedral Chamber Choir, a smaller ensemble of more experienced musicians drawn from the Cathedral Choir, assists at many services and occasionally visits parishes throughout the Diocese of the Rio Grande. The Cathedral Choirs always seek new voices and welcome singers of any level or tradition of faith practice. For inquiries about the Cathedral Choir contact Maxine Thevenot, Director of Cathedral Music & Cathedral Organist at (505) 247-1581 ext. 118) or by e-mail (maxinethevenot@yahoo.com).

Cathedral Choristers

The Cathedral Chorister program offers to children ages 6-14 a unique musical experience working with other children in preparation and weekly performance of the finest choral music written for children's voices. Choristers form friendships with other music-loving children from Albuquerque and beyond. They receive expert instruction in music-reading and ensemble performance skills, and enjoy educational excursions to concerts of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles. An annual week-long summer program and participation in summer courses of the Royal School of Church Music throughout the USA is encouraged and also form an important part of the program. Auditions for the Chorister program take place throughout the year. For inquiries about the Chorister Program please contact Maxine Thevenot, Director of Cathedral Music & Cathedral Organist at (505) 247-1581 ext. 118) or by e-mail (maxinethevenot@yahoo.com).

Cathedral Choir

The Cathedral Choir is recognized as one of the finest choral ensembles in the region. In addition to Sunday morning responsibilities, the Cathedral Choir sings for monthly services of Choral Evensong, on major feasts, participates in the Cathedral Commissions program and is well-known for their internationally released recordings with Raven CD.

Tours form an important part of the Cathedral Choir's evangelism to the greater musical and liturgical community. In 2006 the Cathedral Choir undertook an East Coast tour, singing the Sunday Choral Eucharist as St. Thomas' Church, Fifth Avenue, New York City, and two services of Choral Evensong at Washington National Cathedral. In 2007, they toured to the United Kingdom, with week-long residencies at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, and Canterbury Cathedral. In August 2010, the Cathedral Choir will once again serve in residence at St. Paul's Cathedral, London, Southwark Cathedral, London and York Minster Cathedral. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays, from 7:30 to 9:30 PM, although there are occasional additional commitments.
