After nearly 25 years at the Cathedral, I’ve finally stepped up to a more visible leadership position, and what a step up! I’ve spent many years volunteering as a Sunday School Teacher, and helping with a variety of other ministries, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with and get to know many of you. There are also many of you who I have not had the opportunity to get to know. As your new Senior Warden, I look forward to this opportunity to get even more engaged with other members and ministries with which I haven’t previously been acquainted. There are so many wonderful people doing amazing things within our walls and beyond. I truly look forward to hearing from you all and working together to build on the strong foundation built by my predecessors.

I’d like to thank Charlie Hawkins for his outstanding work over the last two years. Charlie helped to oversee this important time of transition–including the searches for an interim dean, a new bishop and a new dean, and their installations! That would be quite enough, but he also helped to build on the excellent work of Mary Erwin and the Vestries of recent years. That work included keeping our usual ministries moving forward while doing extensive work to put our finances in order. I hope you will join me in extending your gratitude for his caring leadership. He is leaving on a high note, with attendance rising, budgets balanced, and a renewed sense of hope for the future.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Dean Kristi and Charlie Hawkins for their faith in me. I certainly do not take this role and the accompanying responsibilities lightly. In the months to come, I look forward to working together and to earning your trust.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to participate in my first Vestry Retreat. What an amazing group of people! They each bring unique perspectives, and a passion to make our Cathedral a place of welcome, and a light of hope in the heart of Albuquerque. I am so excited to be a part of this amazing leadership team!

Faithfully, Zac Van Note, Senior Warden
