From Wells Jones, Stewardship Committee Chair

Hello, I am Wells Jones.  I hope you and your family are well in this difficult time.  I am honored to be a member of vestry, stewardship chair, and a chalice bearer at the Cathedral.  My wife Donna and I joined the cathedral after moving to Albuquerque a couple of years ago.  We  visited a number of churches, but we fell in love with the Cathedral  — for its warm fellowship  — incredible music  — and its outreach to the Albuquerque Community.  It is a wonderful place, but it is also a dynamic place.

Beginning several years ago, our vestry took a hard look at the Cathedral’s future.  Reaching out to the congregation, and others, a strategic vision was created.  After a great deal of hard work by your leaders, the Cathedral lives within its means, not drawing from our reserves.

After an extensive call process, we welcomed Dean Kristi Maulden last September.  Her enthusiastic leadership is bringing growth.  Plans were made to increase Christian formation, and now Father Spencer Brown has joined us — to spearhead that effort — and reinvigorate our Sunday School.

Bishop Hunn is a strong partner in his support of the Cathedral, and we are delighted to welcome the Diocesan offices to the Cathedral soon.

Our Cathedral has responded quickly to Covid-19, and has remained vibrant during the pandemic.  We are now streaming 13 services a week, conducting drive-thru communion, held a blessing of the animals in our parking lot, and have other special events coming up.  Our Food Pantry ministry adapted rapidly, and has continued to fill this vital need.  Plans are in place for the giving ministries around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

In addition to expanding our programs, we are working to assure that our building will be strong for many years to come.  The Organ and some of our stained glass windows were recently repaired.  We are carefully assessing other building needs, and will keep you fully advised as information is available.

Over the next few weeks you will be receiving information about our plans, our budget, and a little later, a request for you to pledge for 2021.  Please thoughtfully and prayerfully consider your pledge, and reach out to members of vestry or our clergy with any questions.

My wife Donna and I feel strongly about supporting the work of the cathedral, and have already made our increased pledge for the coming year.

Thank you for your support of the Cathedral of St. John.  I look forward to a day when all of us can safely gather again for joyful and thankful worship in our beloved Cathedral.

May God keep you and your family safe!
