From the Clergy – January 5, 2020

From the Very Rev. Kristi Maulden January 6th is the Feast of the Epiphany.  Epiphany is also commonly known as Three Kings’ Day.  The word Epiphany means “manifestation” or “showing forth”. In our context, God showed forth in Jesus truth about the nature of God. We...

Warden’s Column – January 5, 2020

Best wishes to you and your loved ones for a joyous new year! How things change in just a year or two…. In January 2018, we had yet to welcome Rev. Dan Webster as our interim dean and had barely begun the discernment process for a new dean. Our finances had stabilized...

From the Clergy – December 22, 2019

From the Very Rev. Kristi Maulden Almost Christmas It is amazing the amount of pressure we put on ourselves at this time of year. I know some people maintain their sanity and calm. But there are many more of us who run ourselves ragged trying to make Christmas perfect...

Warden’s Column – December 22, 2019

The candle we light on the Fourth Sunday of Advent symbolizes Love. What a curious word is “Love”. We use it in so many ways that it sometimes loses the depth of the feeling it represents. For instance, I say, “I love chocolate” and “I love the landscapes of New...

From the Clergy – December 15, 2019

From the Rev. Chuck Jones “Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.”   James 5:14 In my sermons, I find myself most always focusing on preaching about the...

Warden’s Column – December 15, 2019

I always enjoy Gaudete, the third Sunday in Advent. From Ecclesiastical Latin, gaudete means “rejoice (ye).”  In the Advent wreath, Gaudete is represented by lighting a pink candle, as pink is a liturgical color for joy. Indeed, there is much joy as we anticipate the...

Financial Update – December 15, 2019

Our Cathedral finances remain overall good.  The month of November saw 2020 pledges being prepaid and also saw that regular 2019 donations being less than anticipated.   Keep in mind that 2020 funds received in 2019 are not used for 2019 expenses.  Rather, they are...

From the Clergy – December 8, 2019

From the Very Rev. Kristi Maulden The four Sundays and the days in between leading up to Christmas make for the season of Advent.  Historically, this time was to remind people to look for the coming of Christ, not just at Christmas but at his coming again at the end...

From the Clergy – December 1, 2019

From the Very Rev. Kristina Maulden Thanksgiving. Giving Thanks. There is a special call for that this week as we celebrate Thanksgiving, gathering with friends and family if possible, returning to fellowship around the table. So many emotions are thrown in a jumble,...
